Scotland and England's Lakes Region

Scotland and England's Lakes Region - a wealth of stone, art and beautiful landscapes - and the opportunity to connect with Master Wallers from across the UK. After a stop in Glasgow to see some Mackintosh designs, and en route to Crooklands, we detoured to see The Striding Arches. On the way north again, finally got a glimpse of Hadrian' Wall. The DSWA standardisation course in Crooklands was a time for renewing professional and personal connections - check out their site for stone walling resources, information and inspiration. Saw a couple of great presentations - one by Norman Haddow on the building of a beautiful stone arch bridge (check out Norman's blog walls without mortar) and the DVD The Brochs - A Scottish Phenomenon by Irwin Campbell on the historic recreation of a traditional broch.

  2. The sweeping landcapes of northern England are a feast for the eyes. Why they look the way they do is owed largely to the appetite of sheep.
